Big moves on the Alligator River Bridge

A new, higher-rise bridge is rising in eastern North Carolina—replacing the aging swing-span that’s long caused traffic delays for boats, beachgoers, and emergency evacuations.

Led by NCDOT, this $450M project will deliver a modern, durable crossing that keeps marine and vehicle traffic flowing without interruption, strengthening the vital US 64 corridor and access to the Outer Banks.

Construction is well underway, with completion expected 2028–2029. This is infrastructure built for the future.
